Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle IVOMEC-POUR-ON Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health

Description

Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle (Active Ingredient: Ivermectin @ 5.0 mg/mL)

Similar or comparable to Ausmectin Cattle Pour-On (IAHP) & Baymec Pour-On for Cattle (Elanco)

Ivomec Pour-on For Cattle is for the treatment and control of Ivermectin-sensitive gastrointestinal roundworms (including inhibited Ostertagia ostertagi), lungworm (Dictyocaulus viviparus), eyeworm (Thelazia spp.), sucking and biting lice, sarcoptic and chorioptic mange mites, buffalo fly (Haematobia irritans exigua) and cattle tick (Boophilus microplus) in cattle, and for the treatment and control of gastrointestinal roundworms and lungworm of red deer.

Ivomec Pour-on For Cattle is made from Ivermectin @ 5g/L. Ivermectin is a macrocyclic lactone medication used to treat many parasite infestations.  The macrocyclic lactones have a very high efficacy against all stages (including inhibited forms) of the common cattle nematodes.  The least susceptible nematodes are Cooperia and Nematodirus spp.  Because of their high potency and elimination through milk, the macrocyclic lactones are not recommended for use in animals that produce milk for human consumption.  Eprinomectin and moxidectin pour-ons are exceptions, and there is no milk withdrawal time in many countries.

What parasites does Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle treat and control in cattle:

  • Gastrointestinal roundworms:
    • Adult and immature: (L4):
      • Small brown stomach worm (including inhibited stages) – Ostertagia ostertagi
      • Barbers pole worm – Haemonchus placei
      • Stomach hair worm – Trichostrongylus axei
      • Intestinal hair worm – T. colubriformis
      • Small intestinal worm – Cooperia spp.
      • Nodule worm Oesophagostomum – radiatum
    • Adult stages of:
      • Cooperia oncophora
      • C. punctata
      • Oesophagostomum venulosum
      • Whipworm – Trichuris spp.
      • Intestinal threadworm Strongyloides papillosus
    • Immature stages of:
      • Thin-necked intestinal worm (L4) – Nematodirus spp.
      • Lungworm – Dictyocaulus viviparous (adult and immature)
      • Eyeworm – Thelazia spp (adult stages)
  • Sucking and Biting Lice:
    • Linognathus vituli
    • Haematopinus eurysternus
    • Bovicola (Damalinia) bovis
    • Solenopotes capillatus
  • Buffalo Fly – Haematobia irritans exigua
  • Mites – Chorioptes bovis & Sarcoptes scabiei var. bovis
  • Cattle Tick – Boophilus microplus (including organophosphate-, synthetic pyrethroid-, and amidine-resistant strains.)

What is the persistent activity of Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle:

At the recommended dose of 1mL per 10kg, Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle controls:

  • Trichostrongylus axei and Cooperia spp. for up to 14 days after treatment;
  • Ostertagia spp. and Oesophagostomum radiatum for up to 21 days after treatment;

  • Haematobia irritans exigua (Buffalo Fly) for up to 21 days after treatment;
  • Lice (Bovicola bovis and Linognathus vituli) for up to 56 days after treatment;
  • Prevents the appearance of viable adult cattle ticks (Boophilus microplus) on cattle for 28 days after treatment.

Questions and answers from customers

    Does Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle go through the cows milk to benefit their calves?

  1. Q Does Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle go through the cows milk to benefit their calves?
    Asked by Tom on August 29, 2024 7:30 pm
    Answered by the admin

    Some ivermectin from the Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle may be excreted in the milk, but it's not in sufficient quantities to provide meaningful parasite control for the calves. When feasible, the calves should receive their own backline application of Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle.

  2. Does Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle have adverse effects on dung beetle populations?

  3. Q Does Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle have adverse effects on dung beetle populations?
    Asked by Sherron on March 25, 2024 11:52 am
    Answered by the admin

    The Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle label does not advise if the product affects dung beetle and earthworm populations. Studies have shown that Ivermectin, the active ingredient in Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle, can adversely affect dung beetles if it enters their environment through cattle dung.

    Answered by the admin

    If after 28 days from the application of Ivomec Pour-On, and before the minimum 42 days for re-application, cattle have a re-infestation of the cattle tick, we recommend a different active should be used. This should be a chemical separate from a 'mectin' pour-on (i.e. a dip, spray or another chemical group like fluazuron). It is essential to have a tick management plan to suit your situation and rotate tick control products to avoid resistance. For further information regarding tick management, please read our blog 'How to effectively treat cattle ticks' on our website  https://specialistsales.com.au/information-advice/treat-cattle-ticks/.

    Ivermectin Pour-On's have wide safety margins and are well tolerated by breeding animals, including pregnant animals. It is not recommended to apply Ivermectin Pour-On's less than 7-days before calving. You should also be aware of the dangers of handling stress on pregnant cows late in pregnancy.

Tips For Use

Precautions:

  • Use only in well-ventilated areas or outdoors.
  • Close the container when not in use.
  • Cloudiness may result when Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle is stored at temperatures below 0° C.
  • Allowing it to warm at room temperature will restore the normal appearance without affecting efficacy.
  • The antiparasitic activity of ivermectin will be impaired if the formulation is applied to areas of skin with mange scabs or lesions or with dermatoses or adherent materials, e.g. caked mud or manure.
  • This product is only for application to the skin surface; do not give it orally or parenterally.
  • Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle is not recommended for use in species other than cattle and red deer.

Re-Treatment Interval:

  • Store bottle in carton to protect from light.
  • The colour of Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle fades when exposed to light, and depending on the light intensity, fading may occur in less than 30 minutes. This rapid loss of colour does not reflect loss of potency of ivermectin. However, prolonged exposure (i.e. weeks) to light can also result in a gradual decline of ivermectin potency in the formulation.
